002 - HOUSE IN SCOTLAND

Contradiction between landscape and construct

The tower castle is well documented in architecture, and exist for this reason. The task in designing this house was to appropriate these castles, and propose a new castle on the top of a valley.

The plan has two distinct layers, one full, the other empty. The empty layer polarizes the floor, with it’s double-height the central living space becomes the soul of the house, guarded by these thick walls.

Around it, another layer of matter made of granite stones, contains served space such as the kitchen, bathrooms etc..

Afar, a series of six, almost seamless metallic boxes punctuate the chaotic landscape, and give us a strong reference in the landscape.

Inbetween the boxes we see gardens, sometimes with water, sometimes trees etc..

This garden is the threshold that allows the inhabitants to enter their home, or their workshop. Views focus around this garden, as an interplay of light and views happens throughout the day.
